The not-so-secret secret:

Major personal care companies worldwide use chemicals and plastics as ingredients to cope with the demand for low-cost, mass-produced products. Our consumer habits affect the environment, and in turn, our wellbeing.
We are responsible for what we put into the oceans and our bodies. There has never been a more crucial time to revolutionise your beauty regime than now.
The ingredients in your personal care products might be polluting oceans, affecting the water cycle, and making its way into the food we eat.

On ethical consumerism

and why it matters.

Most of us probably don’t realise that the things we choose to buy, use and consume, matter. These decisions affect not only our planet, but ultimately its inhabitants too, i.e. me and you.

is an antibacterial and antifungal agent used in personal care products such as shampoos, toothpastes and deodorants. When these products are washed down the drain, they go to sewage water plants to be treated. Wastewater treatment plants are not always successful in removing TCS before the treated water is released into our oceans. The agent is toxic to aquatic life, and also can cause hormone disruption and liver carcinogenesis in humans.

Triclosan (TCS)

Microbeads

are found in face scrubs, acting as an exfoliant for our skin. These microplastics are often too small to be filtered at wastewater treatment plants, and inevitably end up in the oceans. They get ingested by fish, which then end up on our dinner plates. If ingested in high quantities, chemicals from the plastic can cause poisoning and infertility in marine life, and possibly even in humans.

Do it yourself.

Try our DIY makeup kits, which include all the ingredients you would need to make your own products (all natural and fair trade, of course!). Or purchase individual ingredients to experiment with your own concoctions.
